San Diego’s downtown revitalization project, started in the early 1980’s, has certainly achieved its ultimate goal—Downtown San Diego is now one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in the city, and it is alive with new ideas, opportunity, and diversity. Composed of 8 distinct and unique districts—the Marina District, Little Italy, the Horton District, the Gaslamp Quarter, Columbia, the Core, Cortez Hill, and East Village, downtown San Diego has something for everyone!
Downtown is home to more than 34.000 residents, 80,000 employees, and over 4,000 businesses. All neighborhoods have a Walk Score of 92 or higher, and other forms of transportation are abundant—there are more than 200 bike racks and 50 bike sharingstations, ample trolley routes and schedules, city busses, trains, and there is even a downtown parking app, ParkItDTSD, to alert you to available parking spaces closest to your destination.
Waterfront parks and restaurants are laced throughout the area, and don’t miss the Little Italy Mercato and Farmer’s Market, the Children’s Museum, the newly renovated Headquarters shopping and dining mecca, and the soon to be refurbished SeaPort Village.
