Mission Hills

About Mission Hills

Mission Hills is widely considered to be one of San Diego’s premier communities, geographically neighboring Downtown, Balboa Park, and Old Town. Boasting quick access to the airport and three primary freeways (I-5, I-8, and 163), you will find the nightlife of downtown, beaches, parks, boutique shopping, cafes, and some of the city’s best restaurants are all within walking distance. And yet, it feels as if the hustle and bustle of the city is miles away.

This lovely neighborhood best known for its distinctive architecture, with contributions by premier architects such as Richard Requa, Cliff May, Emmor Brooke Weaver, to name a few. Historic preservation is important to many residents here, and the group Mission Hills Heritage works diligently to create historic districts, control density, and support restoration. Neighborhood activities include an annual Garden Walk, a community 5K run, summer band concerts at Pioneer Park, a large community garage sale in the spring where sensational antiques can be found, and street front beautification projects. Mission Hills has her own thriving nursery—founded in 1910 by Kate Sessions, the “ mother of Balboa Park”. You will find variety and service here which is beyond compare, along with Espresso Mio, which is now on the nursery grounds.

In addition to Grant School (grades K-8), residents also have access to St. Vincent de Paul School and Francis Parker School.
